Steroids

Steroids have been used in many sports for decades. Non- medical uses of anabolic steroids given without prescription are banned by most major sports organizations now. Anabolic- steroids, also known as “roids” are used as performance enhancers to boost, hype and power your muscles. Many professional athletes including Olympic athletes have been caught for using steroids. For example, Marion Jones an Olympic sprinter won many running awards, but forfeited all of her awards as far back as September of 2000, after admitting to using PEDS. John McEwen, who won a bronze medal at the Pan American Games, was disqualified after testing positive for THG. When Barry Bonds and other big baseball stars were caught using steroids, there names were kept a secret on the league list so know one would know that they did steroids. Does the public not need to know about the heroes of Americas favorite past times appearing to be dirty cheaters? I think a 100% of people should know about these things because it is not fair when you are playing the game and beat records just because you are on steroids. Even though this has now become illegal in sports I feel that the records that we have right now in sports are unfair, especially in baseball. Babe Ruth and many other major league baseball players did not use steroids in the time when they played. Now, players use them all the time and some, beat many records while on roids. I think that is unfair because players like Babe Ruth played the game without anything and only used their own natural strength to make records. This is where the debate really heats up. Are steroids cheating, or just part of the improved techniques of honing ones athletics skills? This is a question that has been debated for sometime. In the recent past, sports organizations such as the Olympics, Major League Baseball, the NFL and others have taken a stand against this use of steroids. Now if you are a participant in any of the organizations mentioned above you will be subject to drug testing. Some of this testing is scheduled, and some of the testing is random. But despite the risk of their careers if they get caught taking performance enhancers, many athletes still do. This is because, just like the fans that cheer them on, they are impressed by the results they bring to their team by being stronger. I feel like as a fan we should not back the players up that are using any type of steroid. Regardless of their impact on performance, their use is a major health risk. For example, NFL player Lyle Alzado took steroids and developed a brain tumor. He claimed that this is what happens when you use anabolic steroids. So I think that it is not fair that players now are beating records on steroids, because it is as if they are cheating by not using their own natural body strength. When players who played the game back in the early days made records using only their natural strength, determination and hard work

  1. i think it is a good thing that Anabolic steroids are banned from sports because it makes the sports unfair and unfair to the players that don't use it. And every pro athlete should have a mandatory drug test some players get by with the random tests.

  2. I agree with Jared. I think that Anabolic Steroids should be banned. If people wanted to be truthful and participate in sports correctly, they wouldn't use steroids. Even though steroids might enhance performance, they also come with some nasty side effects. True sporting competitions should be competitions without steroids.

  3. I totallly agree, athletes should use their own strength and ability to make themselves a better performer. They are on a profesional sport for a reason, they don't need steroids to enhance their career.

  4. Professional athletes should have to show their own natural strength. The whole of point of the excitement of the game is that we are seeing regular people using their own natural skills. I completely agree that Anabolic steroids should be banned and that any professional athlete that has used them in the past should be disqualified from the professional sport.
